The River

We've been so boring lately.  It is so hot here!  We have one little room air conditioner that we keep in our tiny living room so we pretty much camp out there all day long.  Brodie has gotten back into playing the Wii.  Ryker likes to pretend to play... as you can tell from the backwards remote in his hand.

Other then playing video games, we spend a lot of our time reading books.  I am so sick of reading books, but the kids love it and I know it's good for them.  Ryker's vocabulary is sky rocketing!  I'm so proud of him.

Anyways, last night we actually did something!  We packed up some sandwiches and went to the river for a picnic!

Bo and the kids usually go by themselves so they can take the dogs running and swimming, but I was a good sport and actually went with them this time and it was a lot of fun.

Below Brodie is "surfing" with Daddy in the current.

Weeeeee!

Whoops!!  Lost a swim suit!

(Sorry Brodie, I couldn't resist!)

Thumbs up -- it's all good!

Ryker was pretty fearless in the water as well.  We found a crawdad claw, threw lots of rocks, tried to catch some minnows, watched Dad swim to the sand bar in the middle of the river, and got sand everywhere  --- what fun!

Oh and don't forget these kids....

They had lots of fun too.  Cohen is a pro at fetching the goose decoy in the water.  He just swims out to it so happily and brings it right back.  Brook is getting better about being in the water too... but she needs a few more swim lessons.

4th of July Parade and Buzz Cut.

We had a great 4th of July.  The best part was that Bo had the day off.  We really love it when Daddy is  home and gets to spend all day with us.  We went to the 4th of July Parade in Menan.  It was at 2:00, so it was a little warm.  I don't understand why it seems so hot here to me.  I know its much cooler then where I grew up in California, but for some reason it seems like it was cooler there.  Maybe its because we had access to an amazing pool and a central air conditioner in our house.

Perhaps we need to teach our kids how to better salute the flag...

Brodie is just trying to put a whole bunch of candy in his pockets and Ryker is saluting with the wrong hand...  oh well!

The cheerleaders performed a dance right in front of us... that's always fun.

A funny story... while we were at the parade, all the horses went by and there were a couple of ladies sitting next to us... one lady said to another, "You won't see that in California." insinuating that we don't have horses in our parades there or something... and the other lady replied, "Yes we do!"  People from Idaho are so funny about Californians.  It's like they can't comprehend that we have agriculture and livestock in our state.  When they think of California, all they think about is the southern California beaches and gay people in San Francisco.  Hello!?  Its a huge state!

Later that evening we went over to Idaho Falls for the fireworks show.  Supposedly it is the best fireworks show west of the Mississippi.  It was definitely impressive, but the fireworks display in Burney still has my heart.

Ok... now onto the Buzz Cut story.  I really don't want to document this to be honest, but I suppose we should.  Here is a picture of my two handsome boys a few days before the incident.  We went and watched Brave - super cute movie... maybe a little too scary for young kids....

Bo was giving himself a haircut and Brodie grabbed the clippers and shaved a nice chunk of hair right off the side of his head.  Oh it was heartbreaking!  We told Brodie we would have to shave the rest of his hair off and he started crying.  Then I started crying... it was horrible!  Ok, I know its just hair and it will grow back fast and thank goodness he is a boy and not a girl, but I hate his hair like this!  Bo told him it was an army man haircut and they watched some you tube videos of army men getting their hair cut, so Brodie is at peace with it, but my 3 year old does not need an army man haircut right now!  Besides he doesn't look like an army man, he looks like a little hoodlum!

This is the side that got cut... its still shorter then the rest of his hair, but I couldn't bring myself to do the whole head that short.  Sigh.

So that's my sad buzz cut story.  And Brodie, if you ever read this later, my love for you did not change, I just hate your haircut.
