Christmas Time

Eek! I've been a horrible blogger! I try to get on here and do a family update at least once a month, but looks like I'm a little behind!

A few weeks ago we went to Hemmingway Village in downtown Rexburg where they put on a great little Christmas activity which includes horse drawn sleigh rides, hot chocolate and donuts, a live nativity, and you get to meet the Grinch and Santa.

It was a LONG line to see Santa and it was basically a quick picture and then they shooed you off. Sort of a bummer because the kids usually get to talk to him for awhile and it's always so cute!

Ryker was super excited to see The Grinch! We watched the movie the night before because last year they had no idea who he was. Mari was shocked that I handed her over to him and Brodie is on the other side of the room standing against the wall. He refused to say hi.

Ryker has been lucky enough to have a couple Christmas parties! He had a Christmas Party at his preschool and then his primary teachers threw a little party for his class as well. He has been loving the season!

Brodie's class party was cancelled because the last day before Christmas break his school had some plumbing issues and had to close school. It was sort of a bummer because they were going to do a Christmas program and a few other moms and I had put together a fun party for them afterwards. Luckily we live in a great neighborhood and one of the moms had the entire neighborhood over for some Christmas games and activities. I wanted all the kids to sing their songs for me too, but the older kids didn't think that was cool, so I lost the argument.

Only 2 more days until Christmas! This month has just gone by in a blur! It didn't help that the first 12 days of the month someone was sick, so it seems like we got ripped off and missed half of it. I have so many projects to finish for the kids. Looks like they might have to be birthday presents instead. Good thing we have a January and February birthday!

I should also mention the last two holidays that I completely missed -- Thanksgiving and Halloween.

My parents came for Thanksgiving and we had a great time with them! The kids adore their grandparents! I don't have any pictures to show for it, but here are some from when they were here for Ryker's birthday. We went for a hike on the Cress Creek Trail. It's an easy hike and was a lot of fun.

We went to a "pumpkin patch" to pick out our pumpkins. I say "pumpkin patch" because the pumpkin patches here are just a bunch of pumpkins that someone puts our on their front lawn and you grab one. So lame compared to the pumpkin patches in California, but my kids don't know the difference.

At least they gave us a couple pumpkins to feed the Elk at the Elk Farm down the road.

There was a Halloween Carnival at Brodie's school that the kids had a blast at. We had an army man, red power ranger, and a little kitty.

Oh and I was a Blessing in Disguise.

On Halloween night, we actually had nice weather! It was so awesome to trick or treat and not have to walk through the snow or have it be so cold that after 3 houses you're ready to go home.

Ryker Turns 4!!

Ryker turned 4 this year!!!! Can't believe how big he is getting!

His birthday fell on a Sunday, but he had preschool on Thursday, so we brought treats to his class. Ryker's favorite book is the Very Hungry Caterpillar, so we made caterpillars out of green grapes and babybel cheese as well as dirt cups. The kids loved it and he felt so special passing out his treats.

On Ryker's actual birthday day, we went to church and then had a family party afterwards.

My parents drove up from California and we also had Bo's parents and two of his cousin's families with us as well. Ryker's request was to have a Super Mario birthday. The kid has been obsessed with Mario lately.

Ryker had a great time opening up his presents. So did Brodie. Brodie gets so grabby every time Ryker opens presents, but it was so cute how excited they would both get. The squeals were constant. And loud.

This kid was spoiled! He got lots of great presents and quite a few neighbors dropped off presents too. We live in the best neighborhood! He felt so special and I couldn't have asked for more.

We love you so much Ryker! You are so loveable and just a joy. We couldn't be happier that you joined our family 4 years ago!

The Zoo 2014

We took our annual trip to the zoo and this time our cousins Jen and Duke got to come with us! Mari has been really into animals lately, so she really enjoyed herself. I love going to this zoo so much because it is small and you can get through it pretty quickly without any meltdowns from littles.

The boys are always so excited to lead us around with the zoo map.

Mari and Duke are about 5 months apart and they get along really well with each other. They are very nice at sharing binkies and sippy cups.

10/22/2014: Brodie: Mom, guess what I'm going to be when I'm older! Me: What? Brodie: A welder, like dad! Me: You don't want to be a mom like me? Brodie: No! I would have to wear girl hair and people would think I was really weird if I did that!

10/13/2014: Ryker was drinking from a bottle of water and he started coughing on it to which I replied, "Did it go down the wrong pipe?" Ryker said, "Yes, Mama. When you drink water, it's supposed to go down the blue pipe, because the red pipe is only for hot water."

10/08/2014: I gave Ryker the lime wedge from my taco truck dinner. He walked over to Bo and said, "Hey Dad, you know those bugs on your tongue? Those are called taste bugs. They aren't bad bugs though. They are good bugs and they tell you when things are good."

10/05/2014: Mari's eating chips and Bo says, "That's why I buy those chips because I know you kids will eat them. Plus their organic." To which Brodie replies, "You're organic!"

10/05/2014: Watching General Conference and someone mentions Thomas S. Monson and Brodie goes, "Hey! I know that guy!"

10/04/2014: A deodorant commercial came on the TV and Brodie was talking to Bo about it, saying that you put deodorant on your armpits so they don't stink and smell good. Then he said, it also makes you run and jump faster too.

05/12/2014: Ryker: Mom, when I am 80, I'll be old enough to have a car and I'm going to go drive down to where Diego lives (Brazil) and go to a piranha pond and catch them all.

05/10/2014: Ryker went to his Grandma's classroom to look at the newly hatched butterflies. When he came home he was excited to tell me all about it. "Mom, before butterflies turn into butterflies, they are raccoons!"

04/16/2014: Ryker watching Diego and Deigo says can you say {...complicated Spanish word...} and Ryker shouts out, "I can't say that!"

04/13/2014: Ryker was playing a hunting game on the ipad and comes up to me and says, "Mom, guess what I shot and killed?" What? "A Cheetah!" Whoa, really? "Yeah, I did that because I shot him right in the meat."

04/06/2014: Ryker, pointing a 'magic wand' at me waves it and says, "mmmaaagggiicccc wwwooorrrddddsss." And turns me into a frog.

03/20/2014: Ryker: Mom, Mari's a stinker. Me: She's a stinker? Why? Ryker: Because she always poops in her diaper, that's why she is a stinker.

06/14/13: Watching Peter Pan for the first time and when they first show Capt. Hook, he has a double cigar holder in his mouth. Brodie starts laughing hysterically and says, "Capt. Hook has two hot dogs in his mouth!!"

05/22/13: Brodie: Daddy, when I come into your bed sometimes you snore really loud and it keeps me awake.

Bo: I do? What does it sound like?

Brodie: It sounds like you're burping a lot.

05/06/13: On day 3 of no accidents with Ryker and potty training and the kid needs to do his big job. I help him onto the toilet and ask him if he wants me to give him some privacy, to which he replies yes, so I close the door and head back into the kitchen. A minute or so later he comes out, pants around his legs, and says, "Mom, I want privacy and you not give it to me." I tell him privacy means he goes to the bathroom by himself without me being in there, to which he replies, "Mmmmooooommmm! I said I want privacy and you not give it to me and my poo poo stuck." Turns out he thinks privacy is something I'm supposed to give him to help him go poo poo. So I gave him some craisins.

05/05/13: Bo was preparing some ribs for the barbecue and there was a little bit of blood on them. Ryker points it out and says, "A raccoon bit those ribs and gave it an ouchy."

04/28/2013: After church the boys were playing in the front yard and a couple in our ward walked by. Brodie came running in and said to me, "Mom! Joseph Smith just walked by!"

04/24/2013: The other day Brodie said to me, "Mom, you're so pretty and the best mom in the world!" I said thank you and then he said, "Will you go get the ipod out of the car?" Really? Then today he says, "Mom get me some milk or I'll pull your neck off." Um, no. At least in the first scenario I was told I was pretty and a great mom.

04/20/2013:

Me: What do you want breakfast?

Ryker: Crab soup!

Me: Crab Soup? For breakfast?

Ryker: Oh yeah!

Me; How about french toast?

Ryker: Crab soup!

Me: Panckaes?

Ryker: Crab soup!

Me: Eggs?

Ryker: Crab soup!

Me: You just want crab soup?

Ryker: Oh yeah!

02/20/2013: Ryker crawled into Mari's carseat so I asked him if he was a baby to which he replied, "No, I not a baby, I'm just Rykie.

01/30/2013: As we were driving home for the first time with 3 kids in the back seat:

Brodie: "Mom, we need to buy a new car because ours is getting too old."

Me: "It is? I don't think Mommy has enough money to buy a new car right now."

Brodie: "Mom, it only costs one dollar."

01/25/2013: While watching a show that was mentioning engineers, Bo was telling the boys that they could be engineers when they get bigger and build things like bridges, work with electricity, etc etc and Brodie says, "Yeah and I can skateboard really fast!"

01/25/2013: Brodie was asking his dad where what we put in the potty goes when we flush it. Bo drew the boys a little diagram and explained what a septic tank was. After he was done explaining everything, Brodie says, "Wow, that's like magic."

01/23/2013: I told the boys we were going to go to the movies once their dad got home from work...

Brodie: Hey I have a good idea! Before we go to the movies maybe we could do my hair.

Me: Yeah, we could do that.

Brodie: Mom, I just want to do my hair before we go to the movies because I think there might be girls there and I just want them to think I look nice.

Later that day after Brodie did his hair and we were about to leave I hear Brodie trying to convince Ryker to do his hair too. Ryker kept saying no and Brodie said, "But Ryker, the girls won't think you look nice." Ryker shouts NO at him again and Brodie says, "Ok, fine, they'll still think you look nice."

01/12/2013: Brodie thought he was being so funny by singing "poo-poo" over and over again to the tune of Jingle Bells. Then he ended his song with "Poo-poo on Ryker's head." Ryker got a really serious look on his face and angrily said to Brodie, "No Brodie! Poo-poo come out my bum!"

01/09/2013: Making lunch and I ask the boys if they want tamales. Brodie squeals, "YES! YES! YES!" I heat up the tamales and place them infront of the kids and Brodie gives me a puzzled what the heck is this sort of look... so I asked him what was the matter and he says in a sad little voice, "I wanted raviolis." So I say, "I said tamales, not raviolis." To which he replies, "Darn it!"

12/19/2012: Brodie's newest excuse to get up out of bed, "MOM!" Me: "What?" "My breath is stinky, I think I need to brush my teeth again."

10/31/2012: Since I've had kidney stones, my heating pad has become my new best friend. When my back starts hurting really bad, I'll say how I need it. Today Brodie groans, "Mom, I tooted and now my back hurts. I really need the heating pad." I could not stop laughing! But I got the heating pad for him and he laid on it for about 10 minutes and then told me that it was all better.

10/24/2012: Brodie comes running into the house super excited carrying a leaf and exclaiming, "MOM! I found the biggest leaf in the world! Look!"

09/27/2012: Brodie was observing some flies in our living room and exclaimed, "Mom that fly friend got on top of the other fly friend and they made a tower!" You keep thinking that buddy...

09/21/2012: Ryker found an empty egg carton in the kitchen and exclaimed, "Eggs!" He then proceeded to open up the carton and seeing that it was empty says, "Eggs... where are you????" In the voice he uses when playing hide n go seek.

09/03/2012: Nana and Brodie were playing with some toy horses and they were talking about things they were eating. Brodie says to Nana's horse, "Here is some hay, carrots and some yummy deer meat." A couple seconds later he says to Nana's horse, "Daddy shot a bear and it went sleepy night night, so here is the bear meat to eat." Followed by, "Eat all your bear soup, you don't want it to go to waste."

08/22/2012: I was explaining to Brodie that tomorrow is his last day of preschool and then he'd have a month break and start preschool at a new school. I then told him that at his new school there would be a window where I could watch him (they have a one way mirror so parents can observe their kids). Brodie replied, "Oh, like how Jesus does." Me: "Ummm... yeah..." Brodie: "Mom, Jesus watches over us and he makes sick people feel better and he can kill bad guys with his sword."

08/18/2012: Bo was reading an ABC Animal book to the kids. It was going something like... Bo: "T is for...?" and Brodie would look at the picture and say, "Tiger!" They got to Z and Bo said, "Z is for...?" Brodie looked at the picture and shouted, "Z-horse!"

08/12/1012: Ryker was looking at a book and naming off all the animals he saw, "Doggie, bird, duck, turtle, (comes to an octopus and thinks...) Snake!"

08/07/2012: Bo thought he was finally better then me at Mario Kart Wii so he challenged me to a race. As I was kicking his trash he said, "Man, I'm like those little girl gymnasts who crack under pressure!"

07/30/2012: As we were driving to the river Brodie said, "Mom, this road is going to be VERY bumpy... hold your belly so you don't get sick!" Me: OK. "Are you holding it?" Me: Yes, I'm holding it. "Are you sure? Because it's really bumpy. Hold your belly!"

06/15/2012: I haven't been feeling very good lately, so I was lying on the couch. Brodie brought me a bowl and said, "Mom, you throw up like this..." *Makes gagging noises* "But make sure you get it all in the bowl." A little while later Brodie says, "Mom we should eat some ice cream. Ice cream will make your belly feel better." I get out the ice cream and Brodie says, "I'll take two scoops. No, I'll take three scoops, because you love me. Mom, I'm taking good care of you. And I'm a cute boy." I am so lucky to have a little cute boy who takes such good care of his mommy!

06/13/2012: Our local egg guy brought us some eggs this morning and as I was putting them in the fridge, Brodie says, "Ooooo, we can make lots of brownies with those eggs!" Like father like son.

06/05/2012: Brodie asked me what we were having for dinner and I told him chicken gyros. He said "Yummy!" and then said, "No wait, lets have popsicles, and ice cream, and human meat." I replied, "Did you just say human meat?" Brodie responded, "Yes, lets have human meat for dinner." I swear we are not zombies. Maybe he meant meat that humans eat?

06/04/2012: Bo left Monday for work and his puppy started crying. Brodie gently says to the puppy, "It's ok puppy, Daddy goes to work a lot. He has to get paid every day."

04/30/2012: Brodie: Hey Mom, you're a girl.... rrrrrrright?

04/24/2012: In two weeks the kids and I will be flying on an airplane back to California for a visit. This afternoon we had a lot of thunder and lightning. Brodie came up to me and said, "Mama, lightning is going to hit our airplane and we'll have to jump out with parachutes and we'll go sleepy night night." Great. That's something you want to hear before you go flying!

04/17/2012: Brodie shows me his belly after eating all of his lunch and I say, "Wow! Your belly is so big, it's going to pop!" Brodie replies, "Yes, and corn!" (popcorn)

04/07/2012: Brodie: "Mom let's do this puzzle." Me: "No, lets wait for Daddy to get home first. He likes puzzles." Brodie leaves the room and comes back with a clock. Brodie: "Look mom, see? It's time to do the puzzle."

04/06/2012: Brodie: "I have some boogies in my nose." Me: "You do?" Brodie: "Yes, I think I need to get them with my finger."

04/01/2012: Brodie talking to Bo, "Your teeth are ugly, you should go to doctor (dentist) they paint your teeth when they are dirty."

03/31/2012: The kids and I were snuggling on the bed watching the first session of general conference on the computer. I had my arms up over my head and Brodie could see my armpits which haven't been shaved since before the move (gross, I know). He then proceeds to tell me, "Mom, your armpits have beards. beard, beard, beard."
