This post is mostly for me so I can come back and read it throughout the year.
If you want to skip reading my resolution... I put a few pictures of Brodie at the end. :)
I usually don't follow through with New Years Resolutions, or even make resolutions for that matter... not because I don't want to, but because I can't think of something worth doing. I mean, I'm going to be the best mom, wife, friend, etc. that I can. I don't need to make a resolution to do those things. I want a resolution to be something that I DON'T already do that I've always wished was a part of my character. So when 2010 rolled around I thought about making a real resolution, which again I was having a hard time coming up with. Well, we are now 8 days into January and I've actually come up with a resolution that I really want to do! Its a terrifying one for me and it is going to be really hard.
I don't know if any of you know much about Dr. Laura - and say what you will about her, I'd say the majority of the time she's right. And if you feel offended about what she says, its probably because you know you're at fault and you're trying to attack in order to justify your guilt. At least that's been my experience. Well she always talks about having a back bone. A back bone is something I've never really had. I don't like to be caught up in confrontation and I'm not good at arguing with people (unless its Bo - sorry honey), and worst of all I don't feel like I stand up for people when they are being wrongly attacked. I just always keep my mouth shut and wait for it to be over. Something to this effect happened to me just a few weeks ago. And the person I needed to stick up for was my own husband! The person who I should always be standing by. Ever since then I have felt HORRIBLY guilty and that guilt really is worse then the feeling I get when I do try to speak my mind and stick up for what I think is right.
For example, right now on facebook all the women are listing the color of their bra for breast cancer awareness. Don't get me wrong, I am ALL for breast cancer awareness and research, but I just don't see how in the world listing the color of your underwear is getting people talking about it or helping out the research. Especially when there are women listing their bra color as "lacy blue and pink ;)" That just sounds like you're trying to tell the boys about your bra color, not talk about breast cancer awareness. Maybe each woman should post a fact about breast cancer. That would probably be a lot more helpful. Plus I think the color of your underwear should be private. I took vows with a stand up man and he is the only one who has the right to know the color of my underwear. Why would I disrespect him in letting EVERYONE on the internet know what color bra I am wearing. So on my facebook, I decided to post, "Am I the only one who thinks this color thing is a little inappropriate? My husband will be the only one to know what color I'm wearing." Usually I just wouldn't say anything. But not this time. And let me tell you, I had the pit in my stomach as I was clicking the Post button and I was thinking: Am I going to offend everyone? People are going to think I'm too conservative. (and why would that be a bad thing?)... etc. etc. But now I'm glad that I did it.
Basically, I'm sick of feeling bad about saying what I think is right and chickening out and not saying anything at all. I admire people who speak their mind, even if I think they are wrong, so hopefully instead of offending everyone, you'll admire me or at least respect me for speaking mine. So I'll conclude with saying: Sorry if I offend anyone for speaking my mind in advance. I still love you all!
And now on to what everyone really wants to see...
Mommy and Brodie getting ready to open up presents!
Brodie loved his little baseball toy - Thanks Sue and Mellisa!
These two cousins are seriously going to be best friends
And now we're back to unpacking... Brodie is so helpful. Here he is chewing on a Halloween mask that he found in a box.
